How it started

Embarking on an electric bike venture in 2013, family entrepreneurs Robert "Bob" Kaplan and his brother Howard Kaplan have forged a remarkable journey. Over the course of a decade, they've expanded their presence with four brick-and-mortar electric bike shop locations. Armed with a rich background of over 30 years in logistics management, their mission was to redefine the conventional bike shop experience. Early on, the importance of offering top-quality products became evident, prioritizing safety and excellence for their clients. The introduction of Haibike, a German-manufactured, Bosch-powered bike, led to a strategic shift, excluding bikes produced in China—a principle upheld steadfastly to this day.

In 2014, our inaugural Santa Barbara establishment found its home in a transformed former auto mechanics shop. Here, we initiated the process of securing premier brands, expanding our inventory, and fortifying our Service Center expertise with Bosch certifications and diagnostic tools. Although the initial location held cherished memories, rapid growth prompted us to relocate uptown to the financial district. Presently, our beautiful showroom occupies this new space at 1345 State Street, providing an enhanced experience for our valued clientele.

Malibu & Santa Monica, Ca.
Our journey continued with the establishment of our Santa Monica location on Lincoln Blvd, later moving to Main Street upon acquiring Raleigh's historic building. Following that, we ventured into Malibu's Village, where our founders' Kaplan family history fostered a warm welcome from the community. Malibu served as an ideal testing ground for premium products, with fat tire bikes gaining popularity for beach riding and leisurely cruises. Our shop became a hub for celebrities and intriguing individuals, making it a memorable chapter in our story. What a time it was indeed!
