The carbon footprint of an eBike is largely determined by the production, use and recycling of the battery. The longer an eBike is used and the more trips by other means of transport it replaces, the better for the environment. To ensure that valuable raw materials can be reused at the end of its service life, the battery must be properly recycled.

Damaged or defective eBike batteries should be taken to the nearest approved collection site, a qualified dealer or local hazardous waste disposal facility for safe disposal.

The service life of Bosch batteries is influenced mainly by the type and duration of use. Like every lithium-ion battery, a Bosch battery also ages over time, even if you do not use it. Over time it loses capacity life expectancy is 6-10 years.

Factors that shorten the service life: 

  • Heavy-load use
  • Storage at over 86 °F ambient temperature
  •  Prolonged storage in a completely charged or completely discharged state
  •  Parking of the eBike in the blazing sun
  • Regular complete "discharge" of the battery

Factors that extend the service life: 

  • Low-load use
  • Storage at moderate temperatures – ideally at room temperature
  • The ideal battery charge level is between 30% und 60%
  • Parking the eBike in the shade or a cool location
